* journalistic merit - 3/3
* coherence of storytelling - 4/4
* quality of photos (understanding limits on equipment) - 1.5/2
* quality of audio recording (with existing equipment) - 1.5/2
* quality of audio editing - 2/2
* how well the pictures and audio fit together - 3/3
* meaningful, appropriate, and accurate use of captions - 1.5/2
* attention to detail (avoidance of spelling mistakes and choppy editing) - 1.5/2
TOTAL: 18/20
COMMENTS: This was a very nice story, and quite effective. Great use of natural sound. One might easily see such a story on a newspaper's website along with coverage of community activities. I think it gives the audience a feel for the atmosphere and spirit of the event which neither a print story or photo essay could accomplish alone. One pointer: while the opening photo helped to establish the location of the starting line, it wasn't the most interesting photo. You may want to consider whether some other more visually interesting photo might be more effective to convince the busy web-surfer to click "play" on your story. Another reaction I had was that at some points in the story you could have left some of the photos up longer and used fewer photos - there were some sequences of interesting photos that I might have enjoyed viewing with a little less haste. But overall, a good job. As I'm sure you learned, an event like this is a natural subject for a soundslide. It provides a well-contained, focused, and visually interesting subject matter to work with - including people who don't mind being photographed!

Good job with the editing. One suggestion is that you should make sure that the beginning is clear enough, perhaps include a second or two of empty noise before you "fade in", and also make sure that the ending is not too abrupt with the fade out and cut off. This can also be achieved by padding the end a bit more with some empty noise.

Glad to see that your group successfully covered the event. Look forward to seeing the completed project. Regarding the final HKStories project, you need to make sure that your story is different from the other organic farming stories as well as from another possible story on ecotourism. We can discuss this further in class.

A couple other classmates have also proposed the Green Power Hike for the soundslides project, so perhaps you can team up with them.
Many people seem interested in doing the organic farming story for their individual project. Unfortunately we can't have everybody doing the same thing, so please think about some other angles or subjects which we can discuss further in class.

Basically a good post and good use of hyperlinks. I can see that you looked at the Digital Edge Awards but cannot tell from what you wrote, however, whether you did the other readings or not.
