COMMENTS: This was a very nice story, and quite effective. Great use of natural sound. One might easily see such a story on a newspaper’s website along with coverage of community activities. I think it gives the audience a feel for the atmosphere and spirit of the event which neither a print story or photo essay could accomplish alone. One pointer: while the opening photo helped to establish the location of the starting line, it wasn’t the most interesting photo. You may want to consider whether some other more visually interesting photo might be more effective to convince the busy web-surfer to click “play” on your story. Another reaction I had was that at some points in the story you could have left some of the photos up longer and used fewer photos - there were some sequences of interesting photos that I might have enjoyed viewing with a little less haste. But overall, a good job. As I’m sure you learned, an event like this is a natural subject for a soundslide. It provides a well-contained, focused, and visually interesting subject matter to work with - including people who don’t mind being photographed!
